
NOTICE OF PUBLIC WORKSHOP
The City Council of the City of Etna will host a public workshop on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at the City of Etna Council Chambers, 442 Main Street, Etna, California on the following item:
CITY OF ETNA GENERAL PLAN & ZONING CODE UPDATES
The project consists of updates to the City of Etna General Plan Introduction and Land Use Element and to the City of Etna Zoning Code. The Land Use Element is being updated consistent with state law and to incorporate the issues, opportunities, and constraints identified throughout the General Plan in an effort to balance them with the community’s goals for its future development and to ensure an adequate supply of residential, commercial, mixed use, manufacturing, public agency, and other lands to meet the foreseeable needs of the community. The Zoning Code is being updated consistent with state law, case law, and the General Plan; and to better define land uses, regulations, and exceptions; to facilitate development and redevelopment; to provide for future integration of compatible residential and non-residential uses; to improve access to housing, jobs, services, open space, and other destinations through non-vehicular transit modes; to promote economic investment, redevelopment, and revitalization in the community; to encourage a compact urban form; and to safeguard the character of existing neighborhoods.
Why is the City of Etna updating its General Plan and Zoning Code?
Generally, cities and counties update their general plans every 10 to 20 years. Prior to Etna’s recent updates to the General Plan Housing, Noise, Circulation, and Open Space & Conservation Elements in 2024, the General Plan was last updated in 2005 and numerous revisions were necessary to comply with state law. Similar to the General Plan, Etna’s last comprehensive Zoning Code update occurred many years ago (2003) and several revisions are needed to reflect changes to state law and/or case law, and to implement the City’s General Plan update.
Who should get involved?
The City’s goal is to foster strong public participation throughout the General Plan and Zoning Code update process and the City would like to hear from the entire community. The workshop to discuss the updates to the City of Etna General Plan Introduction and Land Use Element and to the City of Etna Zoning Code will be held on May 27, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council chambers located at 442 Main Street, Etna, California.
